MAGMAXX

Magnesium is one such mineral which at times get overlooked during medical management of certain diseases. It has been seen that approx. 60% of patients who are critically ill have low magnesium levels. Specifically talking about diseases like cancer, renal disorder and kidney transplantation; it has been observed that patients have significantly low magnesium levels. Since the symptoms of magnesium deficiency are almost similar of other nutrient deficiencies like potassium, calcium so at times it remain undetectable. During the treatment of renal disorders and kidney transplantation, immunosuppressants are given to the patients. It has been observed that these immunosuppressants results in low magnesium levels. The calcineurin inhibitors, cyclosporine A (CSA) and tacrolimus are some of the immunosuppressants given which can cause hypomagnesemia by suppressing reabsorption of magnesium (Mg) from renal tubules. Low magnesium levels can further progress renal impairment or it may lead to encephalopathy especially in patients receiving tacrolimus. Steadfast Medishield who are proficient and specialised in understanding the pharmaceutical needs of renal patients came up with this initiative by the name of Magmaxx. This is an oral magnesium oxide supplement which was launched especially keeping in mind the hypomagnesemia which is often a symptom in kidney patients. This tablet consists of 400 mg of magnesium oxide. The oxide form was chosen due to its high elemental content and slow excretion rate from our body. MgO contains greater amount of elemental Mg than any other magnesium salt with high absorption rate. Oral supplementation of magnesium is generally considered as safe and well-tolerated but some may report of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Overdose of magnesium may lead to hypotension, muscle weakness, and coma hence it is always recommended the before consuming any magnesium supplement, always consult a physician or an expert.
